Morning Doves Are Back Again (2023)
Lawn chair. I'm going on a road trip. Maybe I don't know any destinations- won't you come with me?
All our gold will run out, but hopefully not soon. Let's go check out that storm cloud. I'll build you a weather vane!
'90. How do you feel about flying? I bought a lovely house across the ocean, won't you come with me?
And if the people in power shot down your balloon, take a trip to the junkyard, build yourself a triplane.
I'm bored of my song. Oh it's clear that life is draining out my heart, fake obsessions, fawning till I'm blue.
do you think you're strong? Darling, if I concentrate then I can start manifesting problems night and noon.
But if I slip and wake up happy as a new cartoon, let it go, we'll get packed up, drive off at the break of day.
baby i'll get far away from
imitation
let it all come rolling in
union station
morning doves are back again
morning doves are back again
I Think I Fell Asleep (2022)
I think I fell asleep.
The coral sun is creeping in through rags on the window.
Now I'm stuck under a velvet sky hearing the storms roll in.
it's 7:26. When everything is dizzy,
I'll wake up and miss you again
Gonna write a poem and hope it gets through to you someday.
the walls should float away soon, look at you,
just sing and everyone feels like it's ok.
Like the whole world's gonna be just fine, and we're all destined to find friends again
my only friend is the vanishing girl I met today.
Holding a fake leather bag, she had tiny wrists and the tag on her hat.
she told me, "Run up to the ceiling in a glass room,
before you fall out of the dream. The pretty sunlight will distract you
from the thing you're thinking of".
"cool", I said, "but I'm not that strong". Then I fell.
All I want is to tell you I love you.
It's time to move along, clouds are gone, it'll be a busy day.
Don't know why I love you, but
it's fine if I keep hearing you in everything.
I'm always in a dream anyway
...
Plastic Box (2022)
oooh I live inside a raindrop and the snow is falling every day
It's blocking out a lovely unfamiliar place
stained glass melting in the sky then outer space
all the lazy planets far away.
ooh my friends all live in raindrops and they talk together every day
see each other thru a veil of mist and snow
sometimes I wish someone would take the veil away
But it's much more safe this way i know.
I think I've got too much time to kill.
no joy or gloom the world stands still
dawn after dawn it always will
and on and on, I love you
(oooooh)
Hey, I live inside a plastic box.
I'd like to leave but there are scary people out today
Please don't ever lift the veil
(I may be sad, but I'm much better off this way, you know.)
oh it feels so safe to stay,
In jail.
Gonna find a better place
gonna raise some tulips
gonna buy some chickens
gonna go to space
Late July (2019)
Under the sun the cottonwood trees
Cover streets with their snowy tears
Newborn foxes sleep in deep peace
They're trying to tell me something I can't hear
The empty feeling ebbs and flows and no one understands
The constellations seemed to me a steady helping hand, but
the faces in the night sky all have moods of their own
Unchanging as the faces in the sand
maybe someday I'll come across you
Pondering an elusive find
I never knew you but I've lost you
your soul is mirrored in my troubled longing mind
People bow and say they love you,
The cheers they give and the cards they send
In my mind no one stands above you
I'd beg to ask you (love) does it ever end.
a desert breeze down from the mountains
Fills my hair and carries hawks up high
The roaring crowd will fade away soon
You'll be the star in this dusty barren sky.
Albatross (2019)
Goodbye sister Madeline
I'm leaving this old world behind
My ghost town shacks are crumbling and they'll fall when I don't need you
your quiet presence in the light
Of little lamps on sleepless nights
Has helped me thru the worst of times but now I have to leave you.
As I look down this dusty western
Road choked full of memories
An eastbound ship still calls me and you know how much I've missed her.
It's time to follow albatrosses motionless above the sea
To them you were a fantasy but I still love you sister
Goodbye long wet summer nights
Crickets chirping in the trees
Hazy cone of morning light
And crowds of friendly honeybees
What lies down the road is just a mystery
Hazel (2019)
Empty cathedral
Hazelwood library
Books cloaked in moon dust
By candles dying
The silence still echoes through lonely corridors
(somber and hollow)
Street lamps and stars whisper 'nevermore'
Sometimes through the cold dawn
Some vision sings to her
Shakes what she leaned on
The brick wall around her
Like silver carnations
Floating in candlelight
Constellations
Don't fade away in those hazel eyes
Proper (2012)
"How very very proper."
(ngil)
"Maggie,
I am so proper."
Oh Madeline, will you ever learn
That you cannot be proper.
you might know, and you might think that you have to be proper.
I don't know.
Neither do I.
History poem (2012)
We weren't here a million years ago
There was too much rain and not enough snow.
Instead there were dinosaurs, oysters, and snails
Some without arms or legs, some without tails
Then once a year or once a day
The tiny animals would come out to play
But they did not know, as I'm trying to say,
That many big dangers guarded their trails.
You never ever were (2012)
You never ever were
What you’ll never ever be
You’ll never live on lakes
You’ll never live on sea
You’ll never jump off a cliff
And keep yourself alive
So that’s why you don’t do much
But dive and dive and dive
The vain cat (2012)
There was once a vain cat in this town
If he spotted a rat he’d just frown
He climbed up in a tree
And he cried “Look at me!
Now exactly how will I get down?”
Math is not fun (2012)
Math is not fun
Math is not fun
I'd much rather play in the sun, (sun, sun)
Once you figure
Math is not fun
You'd much rather play in the sun, sun, sun.
No Neve New Now (2011)
No Neve new now
You can't drive
Whether you are three years old
or whether you are five
Whether it is easy
Or whether it is hard
Waiting's what you have to do to get a license card.
Remember The Story Of The Princess (2011)
Remember the story of the princess who lost her shoe.
Remember the story of the princess who lost her shoe.
Ask Aria, ask Lexie, ask Skylar if they do
Like the story of the princess who lost her shoe.
Like the story of the princess who lost her shoe.
